Kifune Shrine is located on the mountainside of Mount Kifune in the northern part of Kyoto City, and is dedicated to the god of water. It is known as a shrine with a connection to "water," where rainmaking and rain-stopping rituals have been performed since ancient times. It is also famous as a shrine for matchmaking, with stories such as Izumi Shikibu regaining her husband's love. There are many other shrines and temples in the area, such as Kurama Temple and Ohara-no-jinja Shrine. Kifune Shrine can be accessed by bus or a 20-minute walk from Kifune Station on the Eizan Electric Railway. There are also many tourist spots in the area, such as Kurama Cable Car and Okunoin Maou-do Temple.
