Izanagi Shrine

The Izanagi no Mikoto and Izanami no Mikoto, who are said to have given birth to Awaji Island, are enshrined here. This is the oldest shrine in Japan. The "husband and wife harmony" and other blessings are said to be bestowed here. The Meoto Oogusu (husband and wife big camphor tree), where two camphor trees become one, is also located here.
