Hotel Kikuya was a nice hotel, and my friends and I enjoyed our one night stay there. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for somewhere to stay near Yamagata-shi.
ARRIVAL: We had rented a car and were following the Google map trying to find the hotel, but we were unable to find it without calling the hotel. Had some of our trip-goers not been fluent in Japanese, I am uncertain that we would have been able to locate the hotel. Upon arriving though, the staff were very kind and explained everything we needed to know and more. If we were staying here multiple nights, the information they provided would have been very useful.
PARKING: They do have on-site parking, however there's only about 13 spots so they fill up easily as the hotel is quite large. We were directed to park around the block at a softball practice fields parking lot where it is free to park.
ROOM: The room was very nice. The entryway had the entrances to the toilet and the bath (the toilet had a door but it didn't provide much privacy, in terms of sound). There was a kotatsu setup for us upon arrival and the room also had a small drawer-like fridge, two lounge chairs by the window and a ceramic(?) heater which was what heated the room for the night. The room stayed warm enough, however the entryway was freezing in the morning unfortunately. The futons were comfortable though the bean pillows were a disappointment.
