Megane Museum

Inside the Glasses Museum, there is an experience workshop where you can create your own original glasses! From choosing the plastic frame to carving and polishing, you can do everything yourself. It's a full-fledged experience, so the regular course takes 7 hours and even the shortened course takes 5 hours, so be sure to give yourself plenty of time to visit the Glasses Museum. The more casual "Glasses Collage" is also popular. Both workshops require advance reservations, so please be aware of that!

At the free eyeglass museum, you can learn about the history of eyeglass making in Japan. Sabae's eyeglass making is said to be of the highest quality in the world, but many people may not know how eyeglasses are actually made. If you request it, the staff can provide you with a detailed explanation, so why not take the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of eyeglass making in Sabae?

Inside the Glasses Museum, there is a glasses shop. Over 3,000 of the latest models from about 50 companies in Fukui prefecture are displayed and sold here. There are also many limited edition glasses that can only be purchased here, so if you were thinking of changing your glasses, we recommend visiting the glasses shop! In addition to purchasing, you can also consult about repairing or ordering custom-made glasses.

For those of you wondering why sweets are being mentioned at the Megane Museum, there is a shop inside the museum called Sabae Sweets that sells famous confectioneries from Sabae City. The most popular item is the Megane-Katagiri Bread, which is so hard that you need to be careful when eating it! In addition to sweets, there are also magnifying glasses, stirrers, ear picks, and other items that utilize eyeglass processing technology available for purchase.

The Museum Cafe is also very popular. Here, you can enjoy original coffee sourced from "Tachibana-ya," a famous self-roasting coffee shop in neighboring Echizen City.
