Located in the hilly area in the southeast of Sapporo, this place features monuments related to Sapporo and its history, including a statue of Dr. Clark, known as the "Father of Hokkaido Development". In the summer, a 1200㎡ lavender field blooms, and various events are held on the premises, allowing visitors to fully enjoy Hokkaido!

When visiting the Sapporo Bankei Observatory, one thing you can't miss is taking a commemorative photo with the Clark statue. Known as the father of Hokkaido's development and famous for his words "Boys, be ambitious," Dr. Clark's bronze statue is always crowded with many tourists. Behind the statue, you can see the view of Sapporo City, including the Sapporo Dome, and the view is superb. It's also a spot you'll definitely want to visit when you come to Sapporo, as you can feel the grandeur of Hokkaido.

At Sapporo Yagaike Observatory, there is a field where approximately 1,000 lavender plants are cultivated, reaching their peak bloom around July every year. The lavender you pick can be made into dried flowers or potpourri to decorate your home and enjoy the lovely scent for a long time.

The changing environment and the sheep's behavior, which varies with the seasons, such as the fresh greenery in summer and the snowy landscape in winter, make for a picturesque sight that can be enjoyed at any time.

At the "Hitsuji-ga-oka Rest House," known for its pure white exterior, you can enjoy Jingisukan, one of Hokkaido's classic gourmet dishes. The restaurant can seat up to 140 people, and each table is equipped with a Jingisukan grill, allowing you to enjoy freshly grilled meat. The variety of menu options, including raw lamb and seasoned lamb Jingisukan, is also a recommended feature. Additionally, they also offer a slightly unusual option of Ezo deer Jingisukan.

To access the Sapporo Okurayama Observatory in Toyohira-ku, Sapporo City by car, it takes about 35 minutes from Sapporo Station and about 50 minutes from New Chitose Airport. From Fukuzumi Station on the Toho Subway Line, it's about a 12-minute bus ride to get there. Buses run about twice an hour on weekdays and three times on weekends and holidays, making it easy to access by public transportation. The fare is 120 yen for adults.

Parking

Free Parking Available
At Sapporo Yagai Observatory, there is a fully equipped free parking lot with a capacity of about 100 cars, so there is hardly any trouble finding a parking space. When accessing by car, you pay the admission fee while still in the car. Both cash and card payments are accepted, so it's recommended to prepare in advance for a smooth transaction.
