View the Cobalt Blue Color

The spring water at Beppu Benten Pond has a surprisingly transparent cobalt blue color. The secret to this blue color is the unique karst topography of the area, where high-transparency water containing calcium reflects only blue light when illuminated by sunlight. It's said that 186 liters per second and 11 tons per minute of water spring out, which is surprising both in terms of its color and the amount of water that springs out.

For those who want a proper meal, there is a restaurant called "Benten Kaikan" by the pond where you can have set meals and more, so please recharge your energy for sightseeing.

25-Minute Drive from Mine IC

Beppu Benten Pond is easily accessible by car, located about a 25-minute drive from Mine IC on the Chugoku Expressway. It is recommended to visit together with the nearby famous tourist spot "Akiyoshido Cave," but unfortunately there is no public transportation between Akiyoshido Cave and Beppu Benten Pond. Therefore, it is more convenient and efficient to visit by car or taxi, especially if you are traveling together in a car.

Beppu Benten Pond can be enjoyed for free! You can see the mysterious cobalt blue color for free, and there is also a water supply station next to the free parking lot, so please try drinking it. Next to Benten Pond, there is a place where you can enjoy rainbow trout fishing. If you want to fish for rainbow trout, the baited fishing rod is 300 yen per rod, and rainbow trout is 1,800 yen per kilogram (one rainbow trout averages about 250g). Why not try fishing as well while you're there?
