The Hagi Reverberatory Furnace is a metal melting furnace built by the Hagi clan in preparation for foreign threats during the end of the Edo period. It is one of the constituent assets of the World Heritage Site "Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining." Currently, only the chimney part made of 10.5-meter-high andesite masonry (with brickwork on the upper part) remains. As there are many historical tourist spots in the surrounding area, it is also popular among tourists.
