The hot springs at Kawatana Onsen are of the "sodium-calcium chloride hot spring" variety, which is said to warm the body gently while preventing the dissipation of body heat, and has the effect of relaxing muscle tension and promoting blood circulation. It also creates a good film on the skin, maintaining moisture and providing a high sterilizing effect due to the salt content. In particular, the large public bath "Santoka" at the long-established hotel "Kawatana Grand Hotel Otaku" allows you to enjoy the view of the mountains loved by the haiku poet Santoka while taking a bath, and it is famous for being able to feel connected to nature while in the bath. "Kawara Soba" is a colorful soul food of Yamaguchi prefecture, where tea soba boiled on a hot tile is grilled and served with ingredients such as Kinshi egg and beef in warm soup. Not only does it have a striking appearance, but the combination of the chewy upper layer, crispy lower layer, and richly flavored slightly sweet soup is outstanding. You can also enjoy changes in taste by adding condiments such as lemon or grated maple. It is said to be a local dish of Kawatana Onsen, so it is definitely one of the dishes you should try when you come here.

Kawatana Onsen is located at the midpoint of the route from Shimonoseki to Tsunoshima, and is accessible by car in about 30 minutes from Kawatana Onsen to Tsunoshima. It's also a great location for sightseeing, as it's within a 1-2 hour drive of places such as the mysterious torii gates lining the cliffs of the Sea of Japan at Motonosumi Inari Shrine, and the karst plateau of Akiyoshidai, which is counted among Japan's three largest karst formations. It's recommended as a base for scenic sightseeing.
