Ankochan, the mascot character of Bokka no Sato, is a Jersey cow. Bokka no Sato offers various special experiences, but the most popular is Ankochan's milk squeezing experience. It's held twice a day and is free of charge, but on holidays there can be a waiting line. Even if you don't know how to do it, the staff will kindly teach you how to squeeze the milk. At first, the milk may not come out smoothly, but once you get the hang of it, the pure white milk will come out vigorously and it's quite fun.

Within the facility, several buildings are scattered around according to different themes, each offering exhibits that correspond to their respective themes. You may think that Bokka no Sato is closed during the winter, but in fact, there are plenty of activities to enjoy during the winter season when the area is covered in snow. Not only that, but admission fees are also cheaper and more affordable. In addition to the classic sledding, you can experience thrilling activities such as snow tubing (riding on a tube-like float down a dedicated lane) and snowcraft (riding on a rafting board pulled by a snowmobile) safely on a slope without skiers or snowboarders. Pony sleigh rides are also a limited-time winter pleasure. They also offer rental of snow playwear and goods, so you don't have to worry about being unprepared. "Makika Onsen" is a rare hot spring that is only open during the winter season. It's located about a 5-minute walk from Makika-no-Sato. While playing in the snow is fun, it's not so enjoyable to return home with wet hair and cold hands and feet. That's why it's great to be able to refresh your tired body at a nearby hot spring. The facilities are also well-equipped, including an open-air bath, mist サウナ, and Finnish サウナ. Towels are also available for rent, so you can even decide to go on a whim!

When you think of a ranch, you might imagine cows, horses, and sheep, but one of the unique features of Bokka no Sato is the opportunity to interact with alpacas. Alpacas are members of the camel family that are raised for their fine wool in the Andes Mountains of South America. With their long necks and fluffy fur, they are adorable and popular animals. The alpacas living here come in a variety of colors, including white, black, and mixed. Each one also has a unique personality, so be sure to find your favorite. You can even experience feeding them, but be careful not to get spit on!

Take a Tour of the Scenic Countryside on a Road Train

The vast and picturesque countryside of Makigahara can be overwhelming to navigate at first. For those who are unsure where to start, we recommend taking a ride on the "Road Train," which leisurely circles the park grounds. During the green season, two trains named "Dot-kun" and "Max-kun" are in operation. The fare is 300 yen, and while you can't get off midway, the train will take you around the park's highlights for about 10 minutes. In particular, during Golden Week, around 300,000 tulips and hyacinths bloom, and you can enjoy the refreshing scent of flowers carried by the spring breeze. The park also features stylish designs such as hearts and rainbows, which are changed every year. You may even witness a wedding ceremony taking place at the park's symbol, the "Flower Church."

Fee

Different Admission Fees in Winter Season

During the "Green Season" (around April to November), admission fees are 1,200 yen for adults, 900 yen for seniors (65 and older), 900 yen for middle and high school students, and 400 yen for children aged 4 and above but under middle school age. During the "Winter Season," admission fees are 700 yen for middle school students and above, and 400 yen for elementary school children aged 4 and above. There is a group discount for groups of 15 or more. If you're interested in using the hot springs, we recommend purchasing the "Onsen Mokka Set Ticket," which is more cost-effective than purchasing separately. Please check the official website for details on the seasons. If you plan to visit three or more times, consider purchasing an annual passport. There are various handmade experiences available inside the facility, so if you want to try them out, budget separately from the admission fee.

Access

4 minutes by car from Hirugano SA Smart IC

The four-lane expansion of the section between Hida-Kiyomi IC and Shiratori IC, which took about seven years in 2019, has been completed, greatly improving traffic flow in the area. As a result, it takes less than two hours by car from Nagoya and about two hours from Kanazawa City. High-speed buses from Nagoya are also convenient. Although reservations are required, it's easy to travel directly from Nagoya Meitetsu Bus Center to Makigahara.
