Kitakami, Esashiとは
Kitakami Tenjinyama, located on the banks of the tranquil Kitakami River, is known as one of the best cherry blossom viewing spots in Tohoku and is listed as one of the "Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan." Once you step into the Michinoku Folk Village, the largest outdoor museum in Tohoku, you'll feel like you've traveled back in time. Esashi has many historical temples and shrines that have been preserved since ancient times, as well as tourist attractions and experience facilities where both children and adults can learn about history and science while having fun, despite being struck by many fires.

Rekishi Koen Esashi Fujiwara no Sato
A historical theme park with a magnificent atmosphere
The only historical theme park in Japan that focuses on the Heian period. It is a park that conveys the achievements of the Oshu Fujiwara clan to future generations. Inside the park, visitors can experience wearing formal Heian period clothing such as the Junihitoe, the Bundai, and the Heian Tabi Tsubo Costume, allowing them to experience the elegance of the Heian period. Visitors can also try archery and hamaguri-e painting, making it a popular destination for families.

In addition to the thatched-roof houses, there is a museum housed in the former Kurosawa-jiri Girls' High School building, as well as facilities such as a tea house. Visitors can enjoy the changing scenery of the four seasons while surrounded by a nostalgic atmosphere.

Enpukuji Temple on Daibunanakahayama

Enpukuji Temple is a strict training temple where monks from all over the country gather to practice. The impressive stone steps made of serpentinite and the huge thatched roof of the main hall are breathtaking, and the hall itself is designated as an important cultural property of the country. Shojin ryori (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine) and zazen meditation sessions are also held, offering a valuable Zen temple experience.

I no Taki Falls

Located in the Iwaikei area, this waterfall is 15 meters high and 14 meters wide. Near the waterfall basin is the famous "Ai-no-Tsubo," where the Buddhist monk Jikaku Daishi is said to have hung his robe to dry. The waterfall is a popular spot for photography due to the contrast of the cascading water against the surrounding scenery.
