"Mikurigaike Pond" has a circumference of 631 meters and a depth of up to 15 meters, making it the largest in Murodo and considered the most beautiful volcanic lake in the Northern Alps. The surrounding mountains and sky are reflected on the wide surface, sometimes creating an upside-down image of the Tateyama mountain range like a mirror. While there are several walking routes at Tateyama Murodo, one of the most casual and satisfying courses is the "Mikurigaike Pond Circuit Course". Although there are cobblestones and stairs, there are also promenades around the lake, making it a course that can be enjoyed by children and the elderly. Various alpine plants can be enjoyed at your feet, and the surrounding area is covered with Japanese stone pine, making it a habitat for the national natural monument "raicho" (rock ptarmigan). Access

Access to an Elevation of 2,410 Meters is Surprisingly Easy

Mikurigaike Pond is a volcanic lake located at an altitude of 2,410 meters. However, it can be reached on foot in about 15 minutes from Murodo Terminal, the nearest station. However, there are ups and downs, such as narrow stairs, so those who are not confident in walking should be careful. Murodo Terminal is about a 7-minute cable car ride from Tateyama Station, the last stop on the Toyama Chihou Railway in Tateyama Town, Toyama Prefecture. From there, transfer to a bus at Bijodaira Station and arrive in less than an hour. Although it takes time, it's a popular tourist spot, so the guidance is simple and easy to understand. During the tourist season, you may have to wait in long lines to purchase tickets or board transportation. Check the timetable and plan carefully before heading out. During the busy season, direct buses are also available from JR Toyama Station and Michi-no-Eki in Tateyama Town, which are convenient. In addition, there are various climbing courses, and many alpinists visit on foot.
