A Photogenic Spot with Retro Buildings

Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouse A Photogenic Spot with Retro Buildings
The Tsuruga Akarenga Warehouse is a brick warehouse located in Tsuruga City, Fukui Prefecture and is a symbolic presence of the port town of Tsuruga. The exterior of the warehouse is a solid and imposing building made of red bricks, similar to the Akarenga Warehouse, a major tourist spot in Yokohama, and is also popular as a spot for SNS-worthy photos. In addition, there are parks and coastlines around the warehouse where you can enjoy nature and history while taking a stroll.
ポイント 2

From Harbor Facilities to Cultural Facilities!

Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouse From Harbor Facilities to Cultural Facilities!
Since the Meiji period, direct regular ships have been operating between Tsuruga and Russia's Vladivostok, making Tsuruga Port one of the important ports on the Sea of Japan. Among them, the Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouse was originally built as a petroleum storage warehouse and has a history of being used as a military equipment warehouse during the war. The brick wall of the Red Brick Warehouse is registered as a tangible cultural property of the country, and it was opened in its current form in 2015.

A Must-See for Railway Fans!

Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouse A Must-See for Railway Fans!
Next to the Tsuruga Akarenga Warehouse, there is an exhibit of the Kiha 28 3019 train car that was once used on the Obama Line, making it an irresistible spot for railway fans. In addition, inside the warehouse, there is a huge diorama approximately 27 meters long and 7.5 meters deep, created with reference to a restoration map from the Showa 20 era. Steam locomotives such as the D51, which was a feature of Tsuruga, also run here, and you can even see switchbacks.
ポイント 4

Don't Miss the Tsuruga Humanitarian Port Museum!

Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouse Don't Miss the Tsuruga Humanitarian Port Museum!
For history buffs, we recommend visiting the Tsuruga Humanitarian Port Museum located near the Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouse! During World War II, diplomat Chiune Sugihara, who was the Lithuanian Consul General, issued "life visas" to Jewish refugees who were being persecuted. The Jewish refugees headed for Japan, and the place they landed was Tsuruga Port. At this museum, you can learn about the stories of the Jewish refugees who landed at Tsuruga Port and the attitudes of the Tsuruga citizens who accepted them at the time.
ポイント 5

Restaurants are Also Abundant!

Inside the Tsuruga Akarenga Warehouse, there are restaurants and shops where you can enjoy meals and shopping. In particular, the freshly baked cheese tart made with local milk at "Akarenga Cafe" is very popular! Also, saba sandwiches made with Echizen Wakasa's specialty mackerel can only be found in Tsuruga. We recommend trying the delicious seafood dishes made with fresh seafood that can only be tasted in Tsuruga.
ポイント 6

Don't Forget to Visit the Tsuruga Railway Museum!

Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouse Don't Forget to Visit the Tsuruga Railway Museum!
In the past, traveling to Europe was not as easy as it is today. There were no options like airplanes, so people used to travel by train from Tokyo's Shinbashi Station to Tsuruga Port Station, then by ship from Tsuruga Port to Vladivostok, and finally by taking the Trans-Siberian Railway to reach Europe. At the Tsuruga Railway Museum, you can see replicas of materials such as dioramas and timetables that help you understand what it was like back then. It's a must-visit spot for history and railway enthusiasts.

Access

Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouse Bus Transportation Required from the Station!
Bus Transportation Required from the Station!
Getting to the Tsuruga Akarenga Warehouse from JR Tsuruga Station on foot can be a bit tough. We recommend taking the "Gurutto Tsuruga Circulation Bus" for transportation! A single ride costs 200 yen for adults. Those who plan on taking the bus multiple times may want to consider purchasing the 1-day free pass for adults at 500 yen. For those who don't want to worry about bus schedules, we recommend traveling by car.

Fee

Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouse Admission to Diorama Museum is 400 yen per person for adults
Admission to Diorama Museum is 400 yen per person for adults
Admission to the Diorama Museum (North Building) requires a fee of 400 yen per adult. Children in elementary school or younger pay half price at 200 yen. You can also operate the giant diorama model, but this requires a separate fee of 100 yen per use, limited to once a month per person. The museum is closed on Wednesdays (or the following day if it's a national holiday) and during the year-end and New Year holidays, so please plan accordingly. By the way, admission to the Cafe and Restaurant Building (South Building) does not require a fee.

Parking

Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouse Free Parking Available!
Free Parking Available!
The Tsuruga Akarenga Warehouse has a fully equipped free parking lot with space for 60 cars, so there's generally no problem finding a place to park. Since it's convenient to travel by car when visiting other tourist spots as well, many people choose to visit the Tsuruga Akarenga Warehouse by car. However, since Fukui Prefecture is an area that can experience heavy snowfall in the winter, those who are not used to driving in such conditions should be careful and drive safely.
