Oomuroyama

Due to environmental conservation efforts, climbing Mount Omuro on foot is prohibited, and visitors can enjoy a 6-minute aerial stroll with a sense of openness on a lift to reach the summit. Dogs weighing up to 15kg and with a height of up to 45cm are also allowed to accompany their owners. There is a difference in elevation from the foot of the mountain to the summit, and various plants inhabit the area. Various alpine flowers bloom throughout the year, so be sure to take a look from the lift.

Mount Omuro has an elevation of 580 meters and its beautiful scenery and natural attractions have captivated many people. From the summit, you can enjoy a magnificent panorama that overlooks the surrounding mountains and sea, including views from Mount Fuji to the islands of Izu. The view on particularly clear days is exceptional! You can even see the Tokyo Skytree and Yokohama Landmark Tower on occasion. We recommend taking the counterclockwise "Ohachi Meguri" trail that circles the 1 km summit promenade. The summit promenade is also perfect for a walk with your dog. In ancient times, Mount Omuro was considered a sacred object itself, and as such, shrines and stone Buddhas were erected at the summit. In the middle of the crater (east side), there is the Asama Shrine, dedicated to the gods of safe childbirth and matchmaking. At the entrance to the old western climbing path at the top, life-size statues of the five Buddhas are enshrined. In addition, you can see the "Yatsugatake Jizo," which is said to have been dedicated by local fishermen in the neighboring coastal area for maritime safety and prevention of maritime accidents, wishing for maritime transportation. Let's take a look at it while taking a walk at the summit.

Archery is available at the volcanic crater, with targets set up at intervals in the shape of a pestle. From beginners to advanced archers, anyone over 140cm tall and in junior high school or above can enjoy it. Equipment such as bows and arrows can be rented, so you can come empty-handed! Additionally, targets can be taken home as souvenirs. It's a great experience to try and make memories of your visit to Oomuro Mountain. You can apply for the experience on the day at the souvenir shop at the summit.

The traditional event known as Oomuroyama Yama-yaki has a history of 700 years. It's a powerful event where the entire Oomuroyama mountain is burned, and has become a symbol of spring in Ito. The sight of bright red flames spreading from the foot of the mountain to its 580-meter summit is truly breathtaking. From "Sakura no Sato," you can see the mountain's surface turn pitch black as it burns, and every year tens of thousands of visitors come to witness the event. It's a traditional Japanese event that embodies the culture and beliefs of old, and is beloved by many people.

At Oomuroyama, there are shops selling limited edition items and snack stands around the lift entrance that are bustling with activity. At the summit shop, you can purchase specialty items such as "Oomuroyama Mitsufuku Dango" and soft serve ice cream. Around the lift entrance, there are restaurants where you can enjoy menus made with local ingredients, as well as souvenirs and specialty products from Izu. There are many highlights, such as the "Kashiya Takahashi" shop, which offers demonstrations and sales of "Oomuroyama Momiji-yaki" and "Oomuro-style Dining," where you can enjoy menus made with carefully selected local and organic ingredients. There are also limited edition items available, making it a recommended spot for creating travel memories.
