Yuki no Otani

There are two ways to access Yukinotani from the Toyama side depending on the season, and one way to access it from the Nagano side. Firstly, from the Toyama side, there is a method of taking the Tateyama Ropeway and Tateyama Cable Car, and a method of using the limited-time Tateyama Murodo Direct Bus. The former has transfers, but is considered cheaper with more options for round-trip travel times, while the latter has no transfers and allows for easy access, but has limited time at the destination. On the other hand, the method from the Nagano side is to take a bus, cable car, or ropeway from Oyama Station. The characteristic of this route is that you can enjoy the scenic views along the way, such as the quiet Kurobe Dam without tourist water and the stunning Tanbo Plateau during this season. Please try accessing it in a way that suits your travel purpose.

The Snowy Otani Walk is held from mid-April onwards, but due to its high altitude, winter clothing is necessary. Until you arrive at the site, you may be surrounded by spring weather, and if the weather is good and sunny, you may not feel extremely cold despite the temperature. It's recommended to wear long-sleeved shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters, and fleeces layered with thin down or windbreakers that can block the wind. As there is snow and ice, it's best to wear outdoor trekking shoes, but if you don't have them, wear shoes with soles that are as non-slip as possible. As the sunlight is very strong when it's sunny, be sure to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat to prevent snow reflection. Also, when taking a stroll, it's best to use a backpack that leaves both hands free, and as the weather changes frequently, rain gear such as a raincoat is better than an umbrella.
