They are a collective term for 33 scattered lakes in the Tsugaru National Park, and their characteristic feature is the mystical blue lakes. It is said that they were formed by a landslide caused by a major earthquake in 1704, and they became known as the "Twelve Lakes" because you can see 12 lakes when looking from Mount Oyake (694 meters above sea level). The Twelve Lakes are surrounded by beautiful beech forests, allowing you to feel the richness of nature. They are located about 5 kilometers east of the coast of Iwasaki in Fukaura-cho, Nishitsugaru-gun, Aomori Prefecture, and spread over a plateau with an altitude of 150 to 250 meters.
