This is Japan's largest wasabi farm, which opened in 1971. You can see the wasabi fields, which are nurtured by snowmelt water from the Northern Alps, for free. At the shop, you can taste famous gourmet foods such as wasabi soft serve ice cream and wasabi croquettes.

The main attraction of Daio Wasabi Farm is undoubtedly its vast wasabi fields. In an environment blessed with clean water and abundant nature, the highest quality wasabi is cultivated across approximately 15 hectares of land. Throughout the year, green wasabi leaves float on the water's surface, creating a beautiful sight to behold. Additionally, the contrast between the fields and the surrounding mountains, which are sometimes adorned with autumn leaves or snow, is stunning. When strolling through the wasabi fields, you can also rent bicycles or take a waterwheel boat. On the waterwheel boat, you can leisurely cruise down the waterway and enjoy the surrounding nature and wasabi fields. Beautiful Combination of Spring Scenery and Wasabi Fields

Spring is a particularly beautiful season, with cherry blossoms, rapeseed flowers, and daffodils blooming throughout the park. There are about 200 cherry blossom trees planted, and they are in full bloom from mid to late April. Walking under the cherry blossom trees, you can enjoy a romantic scene of pink petals fluttering down. The rapeseed flowers can be seen from March to May. The contrast between the yellow flowers and the blue waterways is beautiful, creating a bright and cheerful atmosphere of spring. There is also something you can't miss: the carp streamers flying above the wasabi fields. From late April to mid-May, you can enjoy watching about 100 carp streamers swimming and swaying in the wind. Carp streamers are a symbol of children's healthy growth, but at Daio Wasabi Farm, it is said to have started with the desire for people to have the perseverance and courage to climb a waterfall like the carp. Take your time and enjoy the peaceful and beautiful spring scenery!

Experience Coolness and Refreshment in the Summer

Even in the intense heat of summer, you can experience coolness and refreshment at the farm. From April to the end of September, the fields of wasabi are covered with black cold protection nets. This is to protect the wasabi, which is weak to direct sunlight, but it also has the effect of blocking the sunlight and making it cooler. Walking under the cold protection nets makes it feel like the temperature has dropped by a few degrees. In addition, the park has spring water flowing from the Northern Alps, with a water temperature of 12℃ throughout the year. It's very refreshing to touch the cold water. For those who want not only coolness but also refreshment, we recommend a clear boat ride on the river. The boat is made of transparent material, allowing you to observe aquatic creatures such as water plants and fish underwater. You can also enjoy a different view by cruising while viewing the famous spots of Daio Wasabi Farm from the river, such as the waterwheel house and carp streamers. The boat operates from April to November and takes about 30 minutes.

Access

Enjoy the Beautiful Scenery of Azumino on Your Way

There are various ways to access Daio Wasabi Farm, and if you go by car, there is a large free parking lot on the farm. It can accommodate about 350 regular cars and 25 large vehicles. It's recommended to use the Chuo Expressway from the city center, get off at the Azumino IC (formerly Toyooka IC), and you can arrive in about 10 minutes by going straight. If you go by train, the nearest station is Hotaka Station on the JR Oito Line, and you can arrive in about 30 minutes from JR Matsumoto Station. The farm is about 3km away from Hotaka Station, and it takes about 10 minutes by taxi or about 35 minutes on foot. You can also rent a bicycle at a cafe called "Hitsujiya" near Hotaka Station and head to Daio Wasabi Farm. The fee is 300 yen per hour, 900 yen for 3 hours, and 1,500 yen for 6 hours. It's convenient that the shop can keep your luggage for you! It takes about 20 minutes by rental bicycle to get to Daio Wasabi Farm. It's exhilarating to run through the countryside while feeling the pleasant breeze along the way. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Azumino on your way to Daio Wasabi Farm by any means.
