Experience Kabuki Theater

Have you ever watched Kabuki theater? As a representative of Japanese culture, we recommend watching it at the Kabuki-za theater if you have the chance! Some may have the impression that Kabuki tickets are expensive, but first-class seats are around 18,000 yen, so it's not an unaffordable price. This is the price for the best seats, and it's possible to watch the performance for around 4,000 yen on the third floor seats!

Casual Kabuki Viewing with a Single Act Ticket

Kabuki often involves enjoying three different stories with breaks in between. Watching all three stories takes about four hours. However, there is a ticket called "hitomakumi" that allows you to watch just one act. The price of the hitomakumi ticket varies depending on the performance, but the cheapest ticket can be as low as 500 yen, making it very easy to enjoy Kabuki casually.

Collaborative products with famous Ginza stores such as Senbikiya are also very popular. In addition, stage photos and actor goods that can only be purchased at the Kabukiza Theatre are available, making it a must-visit for Kabuki fans. Please note that photography is generally prohibited.

The Kabukiza Theatre isn't just used for Kabuki performances. Various events are held throughout the year. Every Thursday, there is a "Kabuki Asaichi" morning market where you can purchase fresh vegetables and cute trinkets. Additionally, Rakugo storytelling is often performed, and the "Edo Rakugo Eating Party" is very popular, so tickets need to be secured early.

Access

Directly Connected to Tokyo Metro Higashi-Ginza Station!

The Kabukiza Theatre has excellent access! It's directly connected to Higashi-Ginza Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line, so you can visit without worrying about getting wet on rainy days. Elevators and other facilities are also fully equipped, so even those with mobility issues need not worry. In addition, it's within walking distance from the Ginza and Tsukiji areas, so you can easily visit while shopping in Ginza or enjoying seafood in Tsukiji.

History

The Hall of Kabuki, a World Renowned Art Form

Since its establishment in 1889, Kabuki-za has undergone five renovations, with the current building being the fifth. Starting with the first building, which had a Western-style exterior, the theater became a Japanese-style building from the second renovation. From the Taisho to the Showa era, it became a place where famous Kabuki actors performed, and Kabuki-za entered its golden age, continuing to the present day. Currently, there are also office buildings and Kabuki-za Tower, making it a theater that fits the times of the Heisei and Reiwa eras. Kabuki-za also plays an active role as a place to connect Kabuki culture to the next generation, welcoming many customers from overseas.

Different seats have different views when watching a play!

Even if you don't plan on watching a play, you can still enter the Kabuki-za and use the souvenir shops and restaurants. However, if you do want to watch a play, you will need to purchase a ticket. Many people buy tickets in advance online, but if there are still seats available, you can purchase them right up until the start of the performance. Prices vary greatly depending on the seat, so it's recommended to check in advance on the Shochiku website or other sources.
