Ii Naotaka, the son of Ii Naomasa, one of the Four Heavenly Kings of the Tokugawa Shogunate, saw a white cat beckoning to him in the temple and curiously walked into the temple. He had a delightful conversation with the abbot and avoided a heavy rainstorm. This white cat is considered a symbol of good luck by the Ii family and is also regarded as an auspicious symbol within the temple. The mascot white cat doesn’t have any gold coins, it is said, because it brings good luck, and wealth must be obtained on one’s own. It seems that many local people buy amulets in the temple, and the white cat is very popular.
