Gero (Gero Onsen)

Gero is a nationally famous area for its hot springs, and is counted as one of Japan's three famous hot springs along with Arima Onsen and Kusatsu Onsen. It is said to have begun about 1000 years ago when hot springs sprang up near the summit of Mount Yufu. It has effects such as improving motor disabilities, rheumatism, nerve paralysis, and fatigue recovery, and is also said to be effective for beauty as sulfuric acid supplements vitamins and activates organs. Many tourists and hot spring visitors visit the Gero area every year to enjoy local cuisine such as nezushi and hoba sushi along with the hot springs.
