Nanko Shrine

The "Rakuon Sakura" located on the grounds of Nanako Shrine is one of the most popular photo spots in Nanako Park. At Nanako Shrine, there is a tea room called Shofutei Rakkan-an, which is said to have been used by Matsudaira Sadanobu. It has been designated as an important cultural property of Fukushima Prefecture. Due to damage caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake, repair work was carried out and visits and use of the tea room resumed. Inside, there is a hanging scroll written by Matsudaira Sadanobu himself, creating a space where you can feel the beauty of simplicity. In addition, tea ceremonies hosted by the "Shirakawa Tea Ceremony Association" are also held, and anyone can participate!

Every year in July, the "Cooling Procession Festival" is held at Nanako Shrine. It's a summer festival where a portable shrine carrying the spirit of Matsudaira Sadanobu is carried around the town. The "Shirakawa Mikoshi Association" of Shirakawa City and local residents and tourists gather together to perform a lively portable shrine procession.
