Experiential aquarium with over 800 exhibited species

A popular spot where you can see colorful tropical fish, seals, and sea lions. The backstage tour where you can experience the backside of the aquarium and the 'jyanome beach' where you can touch living creatures barefoot are also very popular with children. Compare the Kuroshio and Oyashio in an Underwater Tunnel!

The tunnel of the large tank at Aquamarine Fukushima, which holds about 2,050 tons of seawater, is a specialty of the aquarium. The passageway is designed in a triangular shape, resembling the "tide line" of the Kuroshio and Oyashio currents. On the Kuroshio side, fish such as bonito and sardines swim at a tremendous speed, sparkling and shining as they swim around. On the other hand, the Oyashio side is rich in plankton, with seaweed growing densely, allowing you to feel the "sea that nurtures life." Inside the tunnel, try comparing the fish of the Oyashio and Kuroshio currents.

Get Up Close with a Coelacanth Specimen!

Aquamarine Fukushima has been focusing on studying the ecology of the coelacanth since its opening. The museum displays real specimens of this "living fossil" and you can also watch footage of coelacanth fry, which was filmed for the first time in the world. One of the attractions of Aquamarine Fukushima is the chance to see "extremely rare" creatures collected from the Sea of Okhotsk. The Sea of Okhotsk, located in the extremely cold Oyashio current, is a treasure trove of unique creatures, and the distinctive creatures are displayed in the "Oyashio Icebox". In the aquarium with a spread of coral reefs, many unique creatures are on display. You can see the colorful creatures that live in the coral reefs of the Kuroshio Current source area. Among them, the most popular with children is the sight of a large group of Kinmedodoki swimming together. It looks like a big fish is swimming alone. The Chinanago, which pops its head out of the sand, is also popular. Although it's usually a timid creature, if you're lucky, you might be able to see it "staring down" with the Chinanago next to it.

At Aquamarine Fukushima, the exhibit area "Fukushima's Sea - The Road to the Continental Shelf" has newly opened. Here, a large number of deep-sea creatures are on display. The tanks containing the creatures that live in the deep sea look like they are from outer space. You'll feel a different kind of charm from the creatures you usually see. If you visit Aquamarine Fukushima, one tour you won't want to miss is the "Backyard Tour." This tour allows you to peek behind the scenes of the aquarium, where you can see things that are not normally visible or experienced. The backstage of the aquarium is filled with pipes everywhere. The equipment used to send and extract water from the tanks is very expensive. Among them, the "Snake Eye Beach" is a huge 4,500 square meter experience pool where you can touch living creatures barefoot and is the largest of its kind in the world. It reproduces the nature of the beach, allowing you to touch starfish and sea cucumbers, play in the sand, and enjoy a variety of activities. Over 800 Species of Exhibited Organisms!

Aquamarine Fukushima exhibits and raises over 60,000 living creatures of more than 800 species under the theme of "Tidal Currents." Visitors can observe various creatures, including powerful animals from the north, horseshoe crabs and coelacanths, which are called living fossils, and real specimens of rare species. This facility is enjoyable for both adults and children alike.

Access

Good Access by Car, Train, and Bus!

Aquamarine Fukushima is about a 20-minute drive from the Yumoto IC. With about 1,500 parking spaces available for free, you can safely drive there. If you're taking the train or bus, get off at the "Aeon Mall Iwaki Onahama" bus stop on the local bus from Izumi Station on the JR Joban Line, and you'll arrive in a 5-minute walk. Especially during the Golden Week period, the parking lot tends to be very crowded, so it's better to use public transportation during long holidays.

Lots of Discounts at Aquamarine Fukushima!

The entrance fee for Aquamarine Fukushima is 1,850 yen for adults, 900 yen for children in elementary, junior high, and high school, and free for preschoolers. Group rates are also available, with prices of 1,550 yen for adults and 750 yen for children in elementary, junior high, and high school for groups of 20 or more. There are also various payment methods available, such as convenience store tickets and web tickets, making it attractive. Those who have a disability certificate or are recognized as part of school education for children in elementary, junior high, and high school or university students are exempt from the entrance fee.
