The State Guest House welcomes visiting dignitaries from around the world. Built in 1909, it has been open to the public since 2016. The neo-Baroque style exterior is very luxurious and makes you want to visit many times. Please enjoy the view that the dignitaries from around the world have seen.

Beautiful Ceiling Paintings in Each Room

The State Guest House has four rooms: the "Asahi-no-ma" (Room of the Rising Sun), "Sairan-no-ma" (Room of the Colored Phoenix), "Hagoromo-no-ma" (Room of the Feather Mantle), and "Kacho-no-ma" (Room of Flowers and Birds), each with beautiful ceiling paintings and sculptures. The "Asahi-no-ma" is the most prestigious room, featuring the goddess Aurora with the rising sun behind her. The "Sairan-no-ma" has a sculpture of the golden phoenix. The "Hagoromo-no-ma" has a ceiling painting depicting a scene from the Noh play "Hagoromo". In the "Kacho-no-ma", you can see 24 oil paintings by a French painter. Each room has its own unique features, making it a must-see attraction.

The State Guest House, which welcomes dignitaries from around the world, is the only building in Japan constructed in the Neo-Baroque style. This style originated in 19th century Europe, with the Paris Opera House being its representative building. While the State Guest House was built in this style, it has the charm of being able to feel a Japanese touch in some places. One example is the carpet in the "Asahi no Ma" (Room of the Rising Sun). The carpet in this prestigious room, which was called the first guest room, uses 47 types of thread to depict a cherry blossom pattern. In this way, there are many designs throughout the State Guest House that allow you to feel a Japanese touch within the Western style.

In the front yard of the State Guest House, which is beautiful and luxurious from any angle, you can enjoy an afternoon tea. Afternoon tea is limited to 20 servings per day, with two servings costing 5,900 yen. You can order on the day, but it's recommended to make a reservation as there is a limited quantity. The menu includes quiche, sandwiches, fruits, cakes, and more, so you won't get bored. Enjoy an elegant afternoon tea while admiring the beautiful State Guest House, feeling like a state guest yourself.

The State Guest House has two gardens, the main garden and the front garden, which can be freely viewed and photographed. There are various Japanese and Western plants, some of which were planted by Queen Elizabeth and prime ministers from various countries. In front of the main building, there is a large fountain, which is the best photo spot at the State Guest House due to its beauty and the power of the fountain. Please enjoy the nature-rich gardens, which are so spacious that you may forget you are in the heart of Tokyo.

The Only Japanese-Style Annex in the State Guest House that Requires Reservations

While the main building and gardens of the State Guest House can be viewed without reservations on open days, reservations are required to view the Japanese-style annex. During peak periods such as the end of the year and New Year's, there may be a lottery for reservations, so it's recommended to make reservations early. The Japanese-style annex has a different atmosphere from the main building, with a Japanese garden, banquet halls for traditional Japanese meals, and tea rooms, serving as a place to welcome foreign dignitaries with Japanese hospitality. In particular, the "Yuragi" where the ceiling of the corridor reflects the water surface strongly conveys the Japanese aesthetic.

The State Guest House is an important Japanese facility that welcomes dignitaries from around the world. Recently, this place has been opened to the public. The State Guest House is divided into a garden, main building, and Japanese-style annex, with reservations required only for the Japanese-style annex. The main building and garden can be entered without reservations on the open days listed on the homepage, with admission fees of 1500 yen for adults, 1000 yen for university students, 500 yen for middle and high school students, and free for elementary school students. Viewing the Japanese-style annex requires a combined ticket with the main building and garden, with admission fees of 2000 yen for adults, 1500 yen for university students, and 700 yen for middle and high school students.
