Point 1

Experience the Stunning Scenery of the Shikoku Pilgrimage

Nankobo, a special location among the Shikoku Pilgrimage, is located in Imabari City. This area, originally built as a hall for the Daisen Gami Shrine, is a stunning spot surrounded by beautiful nature. Passing through the mountain gate guarded by the Four Heavenly Kings, you'll find historic buildings such as the Yakushi-do Hall and the Konpira-do Hall. As the only temple to bear the title "bo," Nankobo also attracts many visitors due to its profound historical significance, including a legend that Kobo Daishi himself visited the temple. Don't miss the chance to collect a unique stamp book along with the special atmosphere that can only be found here!
Point 2

Nankobo: Beautiful Autumn Foliage

Nankobo, the 55th temple of the Shikoku Pilgrimage, is a historic temple located in Imabari City. This site, originally built as a hall for the Hara-gaku of Oyamazumi Shrine, is known for its beautiful autumn foliage. It was rebuilt by Ochi Tamazumi, the lord of Iyo Province, after receiving an imperial decree, and is now an independent temple with the Daitsuchisho Nyorai as its main deity. There are many buildings on the temple grounds, such as the Yakushi-do and the Kimpira-do, but the autumn foliage season is especially worth seeing. You can also receive a Goshuin stamp, so we recommend keeping it as a souvenir when you visit.
Point 3

Historic Buddhist Statues and Buildings

Nankobo Temple, the 55th temple on the Shikoku Pilgrimage, is a charming combination of history and beauty. Starting with the Daisen-gu Shrine annex, which was founded in 703, this place, also known as a prayer hall for the lord of the Imabari domain, houses valuable Buddhist statues including the main statue, Daitokuji Shaka Nyorai. In addition, the culturally valuable group of buildings showcases the craftsmanship of Choshu carpenters. Experience the profound history while touching the valuable temples and sculptures that escaped air raids.
Point 4

Magnificent Panoramic View of the Pacific Ocean

Nanko-ji Temple, the 55th temple of the Shikoku Pilgrimage, is the only temple in Imabari City that calls itself a "bo." It is known as the previous temple of Oyamazumi Shrine and offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean. It is a historic site visited by Kobo Daishi, and the scenery, which harmonizes historical significance and natural beauty, is breathtaking. You can also feel the deep faith in the successive lords of Imabari who were rebuilt by the main idol, Daitoku Chisho Nyorai, and Iyo Kunisu, Ochi Tamakiyo. Spending time in this spectacular spot is truly exceptional!
Point 5

In addition to precious Buddhist statues such as the main statue of Daitokuji-shakanyorai and a statue of Kobo Daishi, there are also impressive buildings such as the Konpira-do and Yakushi-do.
