general.prefecture.
Oshima's largest temple, also popular as a photo spot.
Koryuji is a temple of the Shingon Mikkyo sect founded by the decree of Prince Shotoku in the 5th year of Empress Suiko's reign (597 AD). The main deity, Senju Kannon, is said to provide blessings for traffic safety and safe travel, and is known as "Funatama-sama". During the Middle Ages, it was worshipped as a prayer site for the Murakami pirates. The temple grounds include the "Zojo 5th Rank Murakami Yoshihiro Monument" commemorating Murakami Yoshihiro, who is said to be the founder of the Murakami pirates, being awarded the rank of Zojo 5th. As a temple for the Seven Lucky Gods of the Seto Inland Sea, you can see a beautiful "Hotei-san no Hana Temizu" (flower hand-washing basin) in front of the main hall. Also, with the wish "Please protect me firmly in this world, and let me live a long and healthy life. And when I go, please let me go easily," visitors can write their names on a paper charm, tie it to an umbrella, and connect their fate with the Kannon deity through the "Pocchiri Musubi Kannon" ritual, which is also popular as a photo spot.
